A Very Unexpected Day at the Longines Championship in Miami Beach
Sometimes the best plans are the ones you never planned at all.
This past weekend my whole family happened to be in Miami for a little vacation together. We were all doing our own thing around the city, and one evening we were on our way to the bar at the The Miami Beach EDITION for some pre-dinner drinks — which, by the way, is an absolute must if you’re in Miami. If you’ve never been, go. And order the espresso martini. Trust me on that one. Wink wink.
On the way there, Logan suddenly says,
“Hey… there are horses there.”
And I’m like… what? where?
Then I saw the little stables they had set up on the sand and the word Longines Global Champions Tour Miami Beach outside and immediately thought: no freaking way.
Once we got to the Edition, ordered my Espresso Martini and I checked online and saw there were still a few tickets left for Sunday.
Saturday I already had plans because I was going to Gulfstream Park to watch one of our horses race, so Sunday was really my only chance.
So naturally… I bought the ticket without thinking.
And I went by myself.
And honestly? I’m so happy I did.
My family was in Miami with me for the weekend, but no one was really that interested in going. And I thought — if this is something I love, why not just go?
Best decision ever.
Sometimes we forget that it’s completely okay to take yourself on a little date. In fact, it can be one of the most fun things you do.
I met wonderful people from all over the world — even some from Puerto Rico — drank some champagne, ate a hot dog (because obviously), and got to witness one of the most prestigious events in equestrian sport right there on the sand in Miami Beach.
Not a bad Sunday if you ask me.
If there’s one little reminder I’d leave you with after this weekend, it’s this:
If you have the opportunity to go somewhere, see something, or experience something you love… go.
Even if you have to go by yourself.
Especially if you have to go by yourself.
