My Why: What Keeps Me Going

People often see the fun parts: the horse shows, the race days, the winner’s circle photos, the championships, the beautiful horses, and my dogs.

And yes… those moments are incredible.

But what you don’t always see are the early mornings, the long workdays, the newsletters, the meetings, the orders, the travel, the setbacks, and everything that happens behind the scenes to make those moments possible.

I work hard because it allows me to build a life around the things I love most.

Every sunrise at the barn, every tail wag waiting for me at home, every race, every show, and every small milestone reminds me why I do what I do.

This isn’t just work to me. It’s my passion.

It’s the reason I wake up excited every morning.

That’s my why.

How to Find—and Stay Focused on—Your Why

1. Make your why visible.
Keep photos, goals, or reminders where you’ll see them every day. My horses and dogs are my daily reminder of why I keep going.

2. Fall in love with the process.
The glamorous moments are only a tiny fraction of the journey. Learn to enjoy the early mornings, the hard work, and the small wins—they’re what make the big moments possible.

3. Don’t compare your timeline.
Everyone sees the finish line, but very few see the years of work behind it. Stay focused on your own path.

4. Protect your time.
Spend more time doing things that move you closer to your goals and less time on things that distract you from them.

5. Celebrate every step.
Not every victory is a trophy. Sometimes it’s simply showing up, staying consistent, or getting one step closer than you were yesterday.

The truth is, your why doesn’t have to be perfect or impressive to anyone else. It just has to be strong enough to get you out of bed on the days when motivation isn’t show up.

When your why is clear, the hard work starts to feel like part of the dream—not the price you pay for it.
